The Lake Dallas Police Department and Municipal Court host the annual ‘Kids N Cops’ Open House, Cook Out & Safety Fair.  The 'Kids N Cops' program encourages positive relationships between police officers and children. The objective is realized through programs and activities that bring the two together. The most popular has proven to be the yearly open house and cook-out that occurs on the last Saturday in April of each year. Started by Chief Nick Ristagno in 1999, the 2011 event marked the 12th anniversary for the program that is coordinated annually by Sergeant Vikki Chandler, the departmental champion for the entire program.

This year the Police Department teamed with the Lake Dallas Municipal Court and expanded the program to include safety education and training. Children and parents are invited to attend the free event every year which includes free food, soft drinks, gifts, T-shirts, educational material, safety training, fun activities and music.
